My work is heavily based in process and material. Whether it is paint or clay, crayons, piano, samples or writing, I enjoy the experience of watching whatever that comes along take form. I really look for and rely on mistakes and surprises as a key to new exciting material. I love this relationship between myself and the material, allowing for the material to inform and inspire, and me not being in control of it. I have been fascinated by rhythm for as long as I can remember, in music but also in many other forms, when I draw and paint I am drawn to this energy of mark making and texture and am often looking for and playing with repetition. Recently I am very interested in using a certain shape, form or sound in repetition and the way that it falls in and out of sequence when we naturally make minor “mistakes” and the way it falls back into sequence again. I find the deterioration of sequence just as wonderful as the creation or recreation of it. This is where I like to explore, between control and chaos.
