AND NOTHING ELSE is a collaborative installation by artists Maria Tolia and Amos Newton. The white walls of the gallery transformed into a fully immersive environment. Dark and light, night and day, moon and sun. Celebrating the simple and tactile through colour, rhythm, pattern and repetition; a space that we hope does not dictate any specific narrative, but rather, in a sort of childlike way, one can experience its enjoyment and wonder. Come visit the show and bask in the liveliness of a single colour.
The exhibition has been made possible with the support of Creative Scotland and Glasgow City Council through the Visual Artist & Craft Maker Awards.
Maria’s practice explores visual narrative and the many forms it can take. She works across a range of media, including drawing, printmaking and making small books. Lately she’s interested in bringing to life objects from her stories, and has also started exploring a more participatory aspect of her work.
Amos’s work is heavily based in process and material: texture, colour, wiggles, and jokes. Whether it is paint or crayons or a piano or synth or writing, he enjoys starting with as little intention as possible and watching whatever that comes along take form.
This takeover show opens Saturday the 10th of July, and will run until the 17th, with opening hours of 12-5 each day.
